Car Washing: Maintaining the Shine

Updated: Oct 18

No matter how much protection you apply to your car, regular washing is crucial to maintain its appearance and prolong the life of PPF or ceramic coatings. However, the method you use can significantly impact the outcome.

Best Practices for Car Washing:

  • Hand Wash with the Two-Bucket Method: Always wash your car by hand using two buckets—one for soapy water and one for rinsing your mitt. This minimizes the chance of dragging dirt across the paint and causing scratches.

  • Use pH-Neutral Soap: A pH-neutral car wash soap prevents the degradation of PPF or ceramic coatings. Avoid harsh detergents as they can strip away protective layers.

  • Microfiber Towels: Use microfiber towels to dry your car, as they are gentle on the surface and prevent swirl marks.

  • Foam Cannon for Pre-Wash: For heavily soiled cars, using a foam cannon can help loosen dirt before you start scrubbing, reducing the risk of scratches.

  • Regular Maintenance Washes: Regularly washing your car every 1-2 weeks prevents contaminants from building up and helps extend the life of both PPF and ceramic coatings.

Combining Car Washing with PPF and Ceramic Coating:

If your car is equipped with PPF or ceramic coating, routine washes will be more efficient, as dirt and water are less likely to cling to the surface. A well-maintained wash routine ensures your protective layers perform optimally.
